The Chicagoland Natural Gas Savings Program (CNGSP) was the first natural gas energy efficiency program for customers of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. The initial program was designed and launched in the early stages of the housing crisis and economic downturn in late 2008, and – combined with federal programs – a served as a critical source of financial assistance for residential customers of all income levels and housing types so that they could replace failing heating equipment and appliances with high efficiency options. RSG helped to launch this initial residential program, then expanded a year later to launch the first non-residential natural gas efficiency program in Chicago. RSG delivered over 2 million therms in energy savings for each of the residential and non-residential programs from April 2010 to May 2011, provided training to hundreds of contractors, and built a solid trade ally network poised to continue to offer energy efficiency after the program end. RSG also implemented an award-winning PR campaign that garnered 120 million impressions.
