Campus Housing Efficiency Solutions (CHES) Program

The CHES Program helps private college and university campus housing facilities to identify and implement cost-saving energy efficiency improvements through technical analyses, financial incentives, and comprehensive installation support services. Through the CHES Program, RSG has worked closely with Stanford University, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz and UC Berkeley, each of which has implemented building upgrades as a result of the work RSG performed. The goal of this program is to reduce energy costs and campus housing operating costs. The program offers unbiased technical services and cash incentives to implement cost-effective energy efficient building improvement strategies to ensure sustained savings beyond a single academic year.

buttonResults:

  • Since 2006, the CHES Program has:
    • enrolled 23 participant facilities
    • completed 18 comprehensive energy audits
    • committed 42 projects based on audit findings
  • In addition to staff project-related work, RSG has solicited the interest and support of student sustainability organizations and specific students to assist in the identification and implementation of lighting projects throughout a number of campus housing facilities. These efforts have led to additional projects being installed that may not have been completed otherwise if student involvement was not a part of the implementation strategy.
