Why You Want to Work

Why You Want to Work in Half Moon Bay

HMB is the Bay Area's Best Kept Secret. A quiet, quaint coastal town located just over the hill from Peninsula towns and only 35 minutes from San Francisco -- far enough away from the hustle and bustle but only a short drive to major destinations.

RSG's office is a stone's throw away from all that HMB has to offer. Located in HMB's vibrant downtown area, you can easily walk to the town's tasty cafes and bakeries, gourmet restaurants and markets, independent bookstores, and unique art galleries and retail shops.

Liberation from your vehicle. If you currently live on the coast or decide to move here, you will enjoy the "no commute" lifestyle -- living and working in a beautiful coastal town. You can easily walk or bike to the office from many neighborhoods.

A Zen-like commute. If you commute to the office from any direction, you will enjoy a reverse commute on scenic highways and feel like you're on vacation while heading to work. If you join your co-workers in a carpool, you can cut costs and emissions and enjoy the ride while leaving the driving to someone else.

Connection to Mother Nature. You can easily go on a scenic hike, surf, walk on the beach, hit the driving range, or enjoy countless other outdoor recreational opportunities before work, after work, or even during your lunch break.

Beat the crowds. Weekdays on the coast give you the opportunity to experience our beautiful coastal town without having to share it with the weekend tourists.

Beat the heat. When it is 102 degrees in Walnut Creek, it is 70 degrees in Half Moon Bay.

Forget the meter maid. Parking is readily available and free.

People Who Moved Here

heather The Local
Heather P. knows a good opportunity when she sees one. "I lived in Half Moon Bay and commuted to Palo Alto for many years," she recalls. "Three years ago, I saw a job posting with RSG. When I realized it was in Half Moon Bay -- only two minutes from my home -- I jumped at the chance to live and work in the town I love so much!" As a result, Heather's commute is short and sweet. "Sometimes I get caught in a little high school traffic dropping my son off at preschool," she explains, "but I don't mind the extra few minutes of ocean views!" Having lived in many other Bay Area locations, Heather is grateful that this vacation destination is home. "Half Moon Bay is a diamond in the rough," she says. "Most people think it's far away, but it's only 20 minutes from everything and who doesn't love the sound of waves to rock you to sleep every night?"
beth The City Slicker
Four years ago, Beth R. moved to San Francisco -- having just graduated from college in Laramie, Wyoming -- to work with RSG. "For a young, single person like me, the nightlife and culture of San Francisco were a real draw," she recounts. "At this point in my life, I can't imagine living anywhere else!" While she loves city life, Beth doesn't mind leaving it for a lovely drive. "I have a beautiful, reverse commute from San Francisco and rarely find it delayed by traffic. Many of us who live in the city carpool to reduce the cost." Beth acknowledges the advantages of working in Half Moon Bay. "Working here grants you access to open space away from crowds and traffic, daily interactions with a friendly and slower-paced local community, a chance to breathe fresh air, and a great view of the coast. You also get first dibs on the pumpkins when the October coastal harvest arrives!"
joe The World Traveler
Joe R. recently moved from the other side of the world to work with RSG. "I was previously living in Shenzhen China, right across the border from Hong Kong," he explains. Going from a city there of 12 million people to the less dense community of San Mateo might have been a stretch, but having lived abroad for some time (in Cairo, Hong Kong and Singapore as well as Shenzhen), Joe was ready to return State-side and especially eager to join RSG. "I was pretty clear about what I was looking for when I was searching for a place to live," he recalls. "I wanted a relatively short commute, proximity to a college to make it easy for my wife to take classes, walking distance to basic services and proximity to parks and walking areas." Joe found it all in San Mateo -- a 15 minute commute to RSG. "The current commute to Half Moon Bay is not bad at all," he says. "It's a nice drive and a beautiful outside environment."
